Security Governance in Africa

Many of my articles have been at least partly about the security sector in Africa. Here are two which try to specifically address the security problems of the continent.

In 2006, I was gratified to be awarded the inaugural Nelson Mandela prize for the best article on security and development in Africa. The text, as published in the Journal of the Royal United Services Institute, under the title "Feeling Good or Getting Better: Options for Security and Development in Africa" can be found here.

Must do Better: The African State, the African State and the State of Africa, which addresses slightly wider issues, was published in Studia Diplomatica in 2009.
